Hello my lovely people!
How fast the time flies, we already have a Friday upon us :) I have been unusually busy last couple of days, what with the kids and daily ups and downs in life. Sometimes i just need to sit back and relax! Oh no! Cant do that, another chore just came up or another kid just cried or is hungry or is angry or is weeping or is...you get it right. Two small children in the house, in a foreign land sometimes does have its downs. Feeling a bit blue, feeling if i am all alone and am i doing the right things for them. I do so miss my friends back in my home town, i do have some friends here, but diapers and strollers are sometimes just the end of social life.
But not to worry, they will grow up, i will learn and we all will definitely be bugging each other for a long long time!! Lesson to self : Stay calm, relax, breathe deeply and tell self that THIS WILL PASS.If not one can always crochet along :)
On this happy note, i present to you my progress on the Giant Granny Patches Blanket. I am done with all my 672 squares. But the joining is not happening as fast i would like it. Mainly because it has ceased to be a portable project and with so many many color options, i often need to sit back spread out the work done and plan accordingly.
My little man wanted to be a part of the photo taking action at home.

To help me ease the process, i did some planning. I divided the 19 colors of 36 squares each into 28 rows of 24 colors each. Of-course i am an engineer and now's when the maths i learned for so many years comes into some practical use!! ha ha
Separated them into 28 zip-lock packets, which my little miss helped me to do. We had such a fun night that day. Both of us packing away the little squares into the packets. And she learning how to lock the bags. So i pick up 1 bag and just lay the color, stand back, re-arrange them and then proceed to join them to the blanket!
Well, its Friday, hopefully the weekend will be much better for me mood-wise. I do hope you guys are crocheting and having fun!
Take care and wishing eveyrone a happy weekend! See you on the other side :)
Love,
xxx
Your giant blanket is looking wonderful....it's really made me smile :0)

Thank you so much and your comment made me smile :)
DeleteGood to see you back! Better way of logically breaking the task else this whopping number of squares can be maddening and turns into a boring job than fun. How cool it would have been if your daughter also knew joining squares ;) girls like helping mom, she has done a good job with you! :)
ReplyDeleteBeing social, hmm, it is not that easy to do so at home town also. Many of my neighbours are working and those who are at home they are busy like us and whenever they have a bit free time, then everyone likes some me-time :) and to tell you , kids never grow :) they will always be kids to you and will always need your time. So just catchon whatever time you get. It will be like that until kids get married. That's my perception and based on experiences of other young to old moms :))
Hey, thanks so much for these words and totally agree with you, tho i feel my girl was a born "terrible twos" syndrome kiddo :) The second one, the son is much much easy, maybe it has to do with the first kid always getting so much attention and pampering! Anyways, i just want her terrible two's to be off! Ya n kids will be kids, as my mom too rightly says to me!
DeleteI sooo understand what you mean, although I'm not living in another country but still 500km away from my best friend and her children.... And living in a small village isn't making it easier...
ReplyDeleteYour blanket is coming along soooo nice. I just counted my squares and I'm at 152 or so... so still a long way to go.
Can't wait to see your Ta-dah post, I'm sure it will be stunning!
Thanks Maree, i am waiting for your finished granny blanket too!
DeleteYour blanket is looking so pretty - you're doing a great job with the color placement. I hope you have a great weekend. :)
ReplyDeletethanks Debi!
Deletewow so much of effort, great job at the balnket..and cheers to your spirit! All the best.
ReplyDeleteEffort is my middle name!! Will deff need all the wishes to help me finish this off the hook :)
DeleteHi Rajeswari,
ReplyDeleteThe blanket is looking very nice. I am sure your little helper is going to be as proud of it as you. I am not in a foreign country but just being in a "foreign" city, I can understand your loneliness. I really miss my Mumbai home and friends. Having two little kiddies at home can be overwhelming but very soon these days will become fond memories, so relax and enjoy. Today we laugh (even giggle) at some of the "harrowing" moments caused by my son. Once again blanket is looking super.
Love.
Thanks a ton Sangeetha, really means a lot! I am waiting for that time when i can sit with my children and giggle, heck maybe even talk without one of us screaming :)
Deletehello, I'm sure you are going to feel much better when that blanket is all sewn together! You are doing a great job of finishing something, a new chapter will begin after I'm sure!! Have a nice weekend, Heather x
ReplyDeleteyour blanket is going to be lovely, I am like you I have to organise each row too it makes it so much easier to join. Have a lovely weekend :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty blanket with all the cheerful colors. I found your blog through Annemarie's Link. Looking forward to following your posts. Heather
ReplyDeleteBeautiful beautiful colours......that is going to be such a lovely blanket.
ReplyDeleteDon't I just know how you feel....living in a strange land and another language....so difficult and homesickness at times can be acute,so much so it made the foundations of our marriage tremble at one time.
Thank goodness for crochet and embroidery and as you so rightly say as the children get older it gets better.
Keep well
Amanda :-)
